Getting Started

Welcome to Tim Edge -- your mechanical trading lab. This guide will get you from sign-up to your first analysis in under five minutes.

What is Tim Edge?

Tim Edge is a platform that combines market analysis, trade execution, smart journaling, and behavioral analytics to help you trade consistently and profitably. It is designed to turn emotional traders into mechanical ones by providing structure, data, and AI-powered insights at every step of your process.

Quick Start Guide

  1. Sign in with your Google account on the login page.
  2. Choose your plan -- Basic, Pro, or Pro + Live -- from the Settings page.
  3. If you selected Pro + Live, navigate to Settings and connect your MT5 broker.
  4. Open the Trade Feed and check the Zone Extraction panel before every trade.
  5. Place trades, journal them honestly, and review your analytics weekly.

Your First Day

Tip
Spend your first session just watching the Market State change throughout the London and New York sessions. This builds intuition before you risk any capital.

Trade Feed

Your main trading dashboard. The Trade Feed shows a live chart on the left and the execution panel on the right, with zone extraction, order placement, and open positions.

Chart

The chart is powered by a professional-grade lightweight charting library, displayed in a resizable split-pane layout. You can drag the divider between the chart and the panel to adjust the widths.

Zone Extraction Panel

The Zone Extraction panel sits at the top of the right-side panel and has two tabs: Market State and Key Zones.

Market State Tab

Shows what the market is currently doing based on the 15-minute timeframe. The algorithm uses EMA20 and EMA50 moving averages, RSI for momentum, and distance from EMAs to detect overextension. It classifies the market into one of four states:

Pullback Expected

Price is stretched away from the trend. A pullback toward a specific zone is likely. Wait for price to reach the target zone, then look for a market structure shift or behavioral change on the 5m chart. Minimum 1:2 R:R.

Continuation Zone

Price is inside the EMA20-EMA50 trend zone. The trend may continue from here. Look for confirmation on the 5m chart. Target 1:3 R:R.

Range-Bound

No clear trend is present. Avoid directional trades. Wait for a breakout above or below the range before entering.

Watching

The market is trending but no actionable setup exists yet. Be patient and wait for either a pullback or a continuation signal.

Key Zones Tab

Shows the nearest demand (buy) and supply (sell) zones found by the Smart Zone algorithm. Each zone card displays:

Placing a Trade

The order placement section sits below Zone Extraction in the right panel. Here is the step-by-step flow:

  1. Check the Market State -- is there an actionable setup?
  2. Check Key Zones -- where should you enter?
  3. Click BUY or SELL to set your direction. The button highlights green for buy, red for sell.
  4. Enter your lot size (default is 0.01).
  5. Set your Stop Loss and Take Profit levels.
  6. Review the Risk display -- it shows your potential loss in dollars and warns if risk is too high.
  7. Click Place Trade to execute.
Feature
The pre-trade checklist is built into the trade flow. Before every trade, it reminds you to verify: Is this with the trend? Is price at a zone? Do I have minimum 1:2 R:R? Am I calm? Is this within my daily trade limit? Using the checklist consistently improves your Discipline score in Analytics.

Open Positions

Below the order form, the Open Positions section shows your currently active trades. Each position card displays:

Tip
On desktop, the sidebar auto-collapses to 60px and expands on hover, giving you more chart space. On mobile, the layout switches to a vertical stack with the chart on top and the panel below.

Zone Extraction -- How It Works

A deep look at the two-layer algorithm that powers Tim Edge's market analysis. Understanding this system is key to using the platform effectively.

Layer 1 -- Market State (Tim Edge v7)

The first layer determines the macro context. It uses EMA20 and EMA50 moving averages on the 15-minute chart to determine trend direction, RSI to gauge momentum, and distance-from-EMA calculations to detect when price is overextended. Based on these inputs, it classifies the market into one of four states: Pullback Expected, Continuation Zone, Range-Bound, or Watching.

Layer 2 -- Key Zones (ICT Smart Zone)

The second layer scans the last 200 fifteen-minute candles to identify Order Blocks -- specific candles where institutional money entered the market. Demand zones are found by locating bearish candles followed by strong bullish impulses. Supply zones are the inverse: bullish candles followed by strong bearish moves.

Each zone is scored on a 0-100% confidence scale based on multiple factors:

How to Use Zone Extraction

  1. Open the Trade Feed before placing any trade.
  2. Read the Market State -- it tells you what to do (or not do).
  3. If Pullback Expected: wait for price to reach the target zone, then confirm on the 5m chart.
  4. If Continuation: look for entry confirmation on 5m within the trend zone.
  5. If Range-Bound: do not trade. Wait for a breakout.
  6. If Watching: be patient. No setup is available yet.

Browser Notifications

Tim Edge sends browser notifications when key events occur, so you do not need to stare at the screen all day:

Important
Zone extraction always analyzes the 15-minute timeframe, regardless of which timeframe you have selected on the chart. This is by design -- the 15m provides the optimal balance of signal quality and timeliness for the instruments supported.

Journal

Every trade is logged with emotions, setup grades, and strategy tags. The journal builds your trading DNA over time and feeds directly into your Analytics scores.

Three Views

The Journal page has three tabs: Calendar, Trade List, and Stats. You can switch between them at the top of the page.

Calendar View

The calendar displays a full month grid. Each day cell shows colored dots -- green for winning trades, red for losing trades -- and the day's net P&L. Click any date to expand it and see the individual trade cards for that day. Today's date is highlighted with a purple border. The month header shows the overall P&L for the displayed month.

Trade List View

A filterable, sortable table of all your trades. You can set a date range with the date pickers and toggle advanced filters including:

Each row shows the trade symbol, direction badge, entry/exit price, P&L, and a source badge (Auto for MT5-detected trades, Manual for hand-logged). Click any row to open the full trade detail modal.

Stats View

Aggregate performance statistics with time-range filtering (week, month, quarter, year, all time). The stats tab includes:

Auto-Journaling (Pro + Live)

If you are on the Pro + Live plan with your MT5 broker connected, trades are automatically detected and logged when they close. A popup appears asking you to rate:

Manual Journaling (All Plans)

Click the + Log Trade button in the top navigation bar to manually add any trade. You enter the symbol, direction, entry/exit price, lot size, P&L, and all the same emotion and strategy tags. This is available on all plans, including Basic.

Daily Journal

Below the calendar, a daily journal section lets you record your mood for the day using emoji buttons, write free-form notes about your market observations, and mark "No Trade Day" if you chose to sit out. This daily entry feeds into the mood-based insights in Analytics.

Feature
Trade screenshots can be uploaded directly or pasted via URL. Screenshots are stored alongside your trade data, making post-session review much more effective.

Analytics

The analytics dashboard gives you deep, behavioral insights into your trading patterns and performance. It goes far beyond basic P&L tracking -- it analyzes your psychology, consistency, and process quality.

Navigation Tabs

Analytics has three bottom tabs: Home, MTS, and Trends. A time-range selector at the top lets you filter data by 7 days, 30 days, 90 days, or all time.

Home Tab

Trading Readiness Score

The centerpiece of the Home tab is a large animated ring displaying your Trading Readiness Score, a 0-100 composite that combines your recent performance, logged emotions, trading streak, and discipline metrics. It uses a gradient color system:

Readiness Factors

Below the ring, six factor cards break down what contributes to your readiness score:

Each factor has a colored status dot (green/yellow/red) and a progress bar showing its individual health.

Morning Mood Check-in

At the top of the Home tab, a mood check-in bar lets you record how you are feeling before you start trading. Select from emoji buttons representing different emotional states. This data feeds directly into your readiness score and over time reveals correlations between your mood and trading outcomes.

D-P-R Score Cards

Three clickable cards show your Discipline, Process, and Risk sub-scores. Tapping any card opens a full-page deep dive for that metric with detailed breakdowns, trend charts, and specific improvement insights.

D Score
D
Discipline -- checklist compliance, trade limit adherence
P Score
P
Process -- consistency of entries, exits, sizing
R Score
R
Risk -- risk management quality, R:R ratios

Streak Tracking

A streak bar with milestone markers shows your current consecutive-day trading streak. It displays your current count, your all-time best streak, a progress bar toward the next milestone (7, 14, 21, 30, 60, 90 days), and a motivational message. When you hit a milestone, the bar glows amber.

Focus Area & Insight

A cyan-bordered insight card highlights your most important area for improvement, drawn from your actual trade data and behavioral patterns. This is personalized guidance, not generic advice.

MTS Tab (Mechanical Trader Score)

Your MTS is the headline metric in Tim Edge. It measures how mechanically -- versus emotionally -- you trade, on a scale from 0 to 100. It is displayed as a large animated ring with a pulsing glow effect.

The MTS is composed of three equally-weighted sub-scores:

MTS ratings are broken into tiers:

ScoreRatingMeaning
90-100EliteTrading like a machine. Peak mechanical execution.
75-89AdvancedStrong process adherence with minor lapses.
60-74DevelopingBuilding good habits. Consistency is improving.
40-59BeginnerEmotional trading still dominates. Focus on process.
0-39NoviceSignificant work needed. Use the checklist every trade.
Note
The MTS requires 7 days of trading data to calibrate. Until then, a "Calibrating" overlay is shown. This is intentional -- the algorithm needs enough data points to produce meaningful scores.

MTS History

Below the MTS ring, a weekly bar chart shows your MTS score over time. You can toggle between viewing the composite MTS or individual D/P/R sub-scores. The current week's bar is highlighted with a glow effect. An expandable "Deep Dive" section shows week-by-week breakdowns with narrative insights.

Trends Tab

Long-term performance trends, weekly comparisons, and pattern evolution charts. This tab shows how your metrics are changing over weeks and months, helping you identify whether your trading process is improving, stagnating, or deteriorating.

Goals

Set personal targets for your Discipline score, win rate, and monthly P&L. Track progress with animated ring indicators. Click the edit (pencil) button on the goals card to update your targets. Goals reset monthly and carry over your targets to each new period.

Deep Dives

Clicking any D/P/R score card opens a full-page deep dive view with:

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

General

What is Tim Edge?
Tim Edge is a mechanical trading lab that combines AI-powered market analysis (zone extraction), trade execution via MT5, a behavioral trade journal, deep analytics with a Mechanical Trader Score, a backtest engine, and an AI coaching assistant. It is designed to help traders build consistency by replacing emotional decisions with a structured, data-driven process.
Do I need trading experience to use Tim Edge?
Tim Edge is designed for traders who understand the basics of price action and market structure. You should know what candlestick charts are, understand concepts like support/resistance, and have basic familiarity with placing orders. The platform then provides the structure, analysis, and behavioral insights to help you trade consistently.
What instruments are supported?
Tim Edge currently supports two instruments: Gold (XAUUSD) and Bitcoin (BTCUSD). These were chosen for their liquidity, volatility, and popularity among active traders. More instruments may be added in future updates.
What brokers work with Tim Edge?
Any MT5 broker that is supported by MetaAPI. This includes popular brokers like Vantage, IC Markets, Exness, FPMarkets, XM, and many others. You connect your existing MT5 account -- Tim Edge does not act as a broker itself.
Can I use Tim Edge on mobile?
Yes. Tim Edge is a Progressive Web App (PWA). You can install it directly from your mobile browser by using "Add to Home Screen" (Safari on iOS, Chrome on Android). This gives you a native app-like experience with a home screen icon, full-screen mode, and offline loading. All pages are fully responsive with a bottom navigation bar on mobile.

Trading

How does zone extraction work?
Zone extraction uses a two-layer algorithm. Layer 1 (Tim Edge v7) uses EMA20, EMA50, and RSI on the 15-minute chart to classify the market state. Layer 2 (ICT Smart Zone) scans 200 candles to identify order blocks, fair value gaps, and swing levels. Each zone is scored 0-100% based on confluence, trend alignment, freshness, momentum, and volatility. See the Zone Extraction section for full details.
Why does zone extraction say "Need more data"?
The algorithm needs 200 fifteen-minute candles to produce reliable analysis. If the data API is temporarily unavailable or the market recently opened with limited data, you may see this message. Keep the page open and it will automatically recover as more candles become available. Cached data is used as a fallback when possible.
What timeframe does zone extraction analyze?
Always the 15-minute timeframe, regardless of what chart timeframe you are viewing. This is intentional -- the 15-minute provides the best balance of signal quality and timeliness for XAUUSD and BTCUSD. The chart timeframe can be set independently for your own visual analysis.
What does the MTS (Mechanical Trader Score) measure?
The MTS is a composite score (0-100) that measures how mechanically you trade. It combines three sub-scores: D (Discipline -- checklist use, trade limits), P (Process -- entry/exit consistency, sizing), and R (Risk -- R:R ratios, risk management). A higher MTS means you are following your plan more consistently and letting emotions influence your trading less. It requires 7 days of data to calibrate.

Account & Billing

How do I connect my MT5 account?
Go to Settings, find the "Connect Your Broker" section, enter your MT5 login number, password, and server name, then click "Connect Account". Your connection will be activated within 24 hours. You need a Pro + Live plan for this feature.
